The Føroya Fornminnissavn (The National Museum of the Faroe Islands) administers the Faroese legislation Act from1948 determining protection for the cultural heritage under the portfolio of the Governments cultural department.
The archaeological department of the Faroe National Museum is responsible for archaeological excavations and for the recording and management of archaeological sites and monuments on the islands. In recent years the policy has been to make more use of non-destructive methods when surveying and recording the archaeological heritage - a work-issue which today has highest priority. In this regard the Arcland network will contribute to develop the museums knowledge and raise its competence in using modern and better methods in the recording and management of the Faroe Island's archaeological and cultural heritage.
