Landscape archaeology is the study of how people designed and used the places and spaces around them in the past. This approach looks at the relationships between artefacts, monuments and the environment to see how people have shaped the landscape. Crucially, landscape archaeology examines how communities thought about the world around them. This is done by looking at approaches to social status, ritual and power within societies.
